Can the owner of a car be held liable for an accident caused by the negligence of someone who borrowed the car?

Yes, according to Florida case law, the “dangerous instrumentality doctrine” holds the owner of a motor vehicle responsible for the negligence of the individual who borrowed it (with the owner’s permission.)
